Saturday NCAA XC Action

Saturday, November 19th marked the end of the NCAA Division I & III XC season and the Division II Regionals.  The Division II Nationals will be December 3rd at University Place, WA.  The following results are for Colorado related finishers.

Division I was held in Stillwater Oklahoma.  Team wise Colorado University Women finished 11th with Colorado State University at 25th.  For the Men, Air Force Academy finished 7th, Colorado University 8th and Colorado State University 28th.  The top finisher for CU Women was Bailey Hertenstein in 5th for the 6K distance in 19:45.1.  CSU’s top finisher was Sarah Carter in 43rd in 20:15.0.  Air Force did have a lone entrance with Halle Hamilton finishing at 107th in 20:40.3.  The top finisher in the 10K distance men’s race for AF was Ryan Johnson (Legend HS) at 28th in 29:29.0.  CU’s top finisher was Austin Vancil (Dakota Ridge HS) at 36th in 29:33.3.  CSU’s top finisher was Mason Brown (Eaglecrest HS) at 141st in 30:31.6.  Other former Colorado High School finishers with out of state Universities were Samrawit Dishon, New Mexico U. (Niwot HS) 37th 20:13.5, Eva Klingbeil, North Carolina U. (Niwot HS) 108th 20:40.5, Riley Stewart, Stanford U. (Cherry Creek HS) 121st 20:45.1, Katelyn Mitchem, Wyoming U. (Broomfield HS) 143rd 20:52.5, Ivy Gonzales, Syracuse U. (Broomfield HS) 189th 21:14.5, Zoe Simmons, Oregon State U. (Mountain Vista HS) 253rd 23:13.2, Parker Wolfe, North Carolina U. (Cherry Creek HS) 9th 29:00.4, Dylan Schubert, Furman U. (Thompson Valley HS) 11th 29:07.5, Isaac Green, Washington U. (Monarch HS) 104th 30:13.8, Cole Sprout, Stanford U. (Valor Christian HS) 118th 30:22.9, Yasin Sado, Virginia U. (Gateway HS) 148th 30:36.2.

Division III was held in Lansing MI. in cold temps and snow packed course. Colorado College women placed 20th as a team with Sydney Rankin as their top finisher in 43rd for the 6K distance 22:46.8.  Sophie Bull from Calvin College (Denver Christian HS) was 241st 24:29.3. James Settle of Colorado College was 60th in 25:50.0 for their lone entrance, for the 8K.  Grahm Tuohy Gaydos from Williams College (Green Mountain HS) was 63rd 25:52.9.

The South-Central Division II Regional was held in Denver Colorado with cold and snow packed conditions.  For the women Adams State University was first, Colorado Mines was second and UC Colorado Springs was third.  All three earned automatic entry into the Division II XC Nationals.  Adams top finisher was Brianna Robles in 6th 21:38.3 for the 6K distance, Mines top finisher was Molly Maksin in 5th 21:35.8, UC Springs top finisher was Layla Almasri in 3rd 21:20.7.  For the men Colorado Mines was first, Colorado Christian was second and Western Colorado University was third.  Mines top 10K finisher was Dillion Powell (Air Academy HS) in FIRST 29:43.1, Colorado Christians top finisher was Josh Pierantoni in 3rd 30:35.3, Western’s top finisher was Simon Kelati (Greeley Central HS) in 10th 31:09.4.  More teams and individuals from this Regional may gain entrance to the National meet after the NCAA looks at the at large formula from all nine Regionals. Stay tuned.  Cole Nash Alaska Anchorage U. and former Chatfield HS grad is going to the Nationals as he placed second at the West Regional 10K with a 30:10.3 in Billings, MT.

The athletes with their names highlighted are in the CTS lists.  The names that are not, could in the upcoming track and field season end up in the illustrious CTS lists!!  Can’t wait!!  First indoor Colorado meets start in early December.
